How the Pricing Index Works

Price benchmarks combine closed marketplace transactions over the trailing twelve months, public OEM list pricing where disclosed, and procurement filings including FERC Form 1 and EIA Form 860. Every category is reported under the four-tier framework — New OEM, Gray Market, Refurbished, and Used — as a midpoint with a 10 to 90 percentile band rather than a single number, because the spread is the information.

Reading a Band

Tier explains most of the variance: a refurbished unit under an OEM programme prices closer to new than to used, and gray market inventory trades on availability rather than condition. Capacity, voltage class, and delivery terms move the rest. Refresh cadence is quarterly for high-volume categories and semi-annual for low-volume ones.
